Wednesday Whereabouts: Charleston Wine + Food Festival

The Charleston Wine & Food Festival was absolutely amazing this year!  On Saturday, I attended an event titled A Few of Our Favorite Things: Champagne & Caviar, hosted by Ruinart Champagne and Caviar & Bananas at a private residence in Charleston.

To say it was absolutely divine is an understatement!

Bulleit Bourbon-infused caviar.  Yum!

Seriously, how gorgeous are all of these platings?  And trust me, they were just as tasty as they looked.  We sat back and enjoyed the stories about the history of Ruinart, as they paired each tasting with delicious caviar.  A fine way to start a Saturday!

The first stop when we arrived at the Cullinary Village was Whispering Angel.  One of my favorite rosés!

Y’all, I’m totally making this Cheerwine Punch sometime!  And if you’ve never had Cheerwine, you’re missing out!  Based in Salisbury, NC, I’ve been drinking Cheerwine since I was little.  Never have I ever considered making it a cocktail, but I will now!

Couldn’t have asked for better weather!

Firefly was serving up a tasty margarita that day.  I’ve been meaning to take a tour of the distillery since we moved here.  Need to make it a date!

I fell in love with Wolffer Estates wine.  Obviously, the bottle caught my eye, but the rosé and white wine was fabulous!  This particular one debuts this week!

If you attend most parties around Charleston, particularly Sullivan’s Island, you’re going to find O and O Hooch mixed with some kind of alcohol at the event.  But that’s the best part about Hooch (a delicious limeade bubbly mix), you can mix it with everything from vodka to tequila and it’s so yummy and refreshing!

We ended the day catching a rickshaw ride out to dinner!

On Sunday, I attended the Gospel Brunch at The Gibbes Museum.

Talk about an extravagant brunch!

If you’re lucky enough to score tickets to this event next year, do it!  Everything from the amazing gospel choir to the delicious food and setting, it was hands down the BEST day!

The brunch started off with yummy bites at tables located around the tent.

An entire miniature breakfast in a tasty two bites from Willy Taco and Cribb’s Kitchen in Spartanburg, SC.

You know they couldn’t forget a bloody mary bar and mimosa bar.

As a heads up, if you’re considering attending next year, pace yourself.  There was so much good food.  While it was all extremely delicious, boy was I full!  I think next year I’ll have a bite or two of each, and not try to down the first courses in their entirety.  It’s just too hard to resist!

After Saturday, I was excited to see more caviar.  Paired with a lemon ricotta, it was heavenly – from The Wickliffe House in Charleston.

Callie’s Biscuits!  If you’re never tasted these before, you’re missing out!  Carrie Morey has perfected the breakfast biscuit.  She never uses machinery and makes all of her biscuits by hand.  At the brunch, she debuted a new sharp cheddar biscuit and blueberry biscuit and they were both insanely good!  No, like I honestly wanted to stuff a few in my purse to bring home to the kids!

Loved the chopped bacon mixed in with the syrup, strawberry and blueberry toppings, from Hamby Catering in Charleston.

I waited patiently for this sourdough waffle topped with bourbon bananas to be served.  And it was as good, if not better, than the description.  I like my waffles soaked in syrup, so this one was right up my alley!  From Mandolin in Raleigh, NC.

To end the brunch, we enjoyed these blue crab beignets from Fleet Landing.

The best purchase from the weekend was this bottle of wine for my mom.  Go Tigers!

It was such a cool experience being part of the Charleston Wine + Food Street Team this year!  Having only lived here for two years, I’m very lucky to call Charleston home!  A true  Holy City!

If you’re considering attending it in the future, I’d highly recommend it!  Even if you just do the Culinary Village one day, it’s totally worth it.  Delicious food, fabulous wine and great company – all located in one of the best cities in the world!  Can’t wait to do it all again next year!
