Tuesday Trends: Rainy Day Activity

This past Saturday, it rained most of the morning, so the kids and I stayed in our pajamas and read books, watched some cartoons and created tie dye coffee filters.  These are so easy to make, and the girls had a great time creating their own works of art.

What You’ll Need:
-Coffee Filters
-Paint Brushes

First, place the coffee filters on plates, and color designs all over the filter.  Make sure to explain that your art doesn’t need a lot of detail, because the lines will all blur, and there won’t be much of a house, cat, car, etc. left when it’s all finished – and that’s alright!

Next, dip the paintbrush in water and paint over all of the designs with your marker.  This is the fun part for both children and adults – they get to paint, and there’s no mess to clean up!

Finally, when most of the marker is blurred by the paintbrushes, lay the filters on paper towels to let them dry.

And Voila!  You’ve created a colorful piece of art, that your children will want to create over and over again.

Couldn’t forget to include a pic of Mr. L after he got up from his nap – post-art project…
Yes, his bedding is pink polka dots.  A clean crib sheet, is a clean crib sheet.  Right?

Hope y’all have a terrific Tuesday!

  1. I love this idea! Jane isn't old enough for crafts yet, but I have started a pinterest pin board for fun crafting ideas that we can use when she's older. I can't wait to have days like this with her!

  2. Just found your blog and am loving looking back at older posts! Would love to try this activity with my 22-month old but wonder what kind of markers work best. Thanks! (p.s. Your kids are precious!!)
