On Running + Costco Opens in Mount P + Outfits Lately

Good morning and happy Tuesday!  Hope y’all had a great weekend!  I’d originally planned to post this yesterday, but didn’t get a chance to finish it before having to shop for school supplies, go grocery shopping, and finishing up some laundry yesterday.

Our school has this awesome program where you can go online and purchase your school supply package (based on each grade level) and the supplies are happily sitting on your child’s desk on the first day.  Well…I unfortunately missed the deadline this year.  Never.  Again.  The amount of time it’s taken me to consolidate all of their school supply lists and finding every school supply outweighs any extra cost they charge for putting those school supply packages together.  Needless to say, next year, as soon as I receive the flyer to order them, I’m stopping everything and ordering them immediately.

Today’s post is focused on running.  I’ve recently had some questions on how I’m staying fit and more details about how I run.  First off, how cute is my top I posted above? It also comes in other fun colors too.  Trying to decide which color to go with next!  Love that it’s a little swingy at the bottom.  I tried to get Effie to snap a pick real quick and the boys of course wanted in on the pic too.  Cuties.

This top is another winner, especially love the back!  And good news!  It’s just been restocked in all colors and in ALL sizes.  I’m wearing a small.  On how far I run everyday, I run three miles.  I feel like it’s not too far and not too short of a run.  Plus, if I’m doing it everyday, around 30 minutes is plenty of time to be away, to fit in a good  cardio work-out.

Thanks for all of your input on Instastories last week, when I asked for some advice on if you/how to wash your shoes if they’re muddy/smelly.  Mine were a little muddy after a run in the rain.  While some of you didn’t recommend it, as it may ruin the structure and support of the shoe, almost all of you said it was okay to toss them in the washing machine.  Just to make sure you put them in something like a delicates bag or pillowcase, to keep them from banging around in there.  Afterward, don’t put them in the dryer, simply stuff them paper towels or newspaper and let them air dry in the sun.  Some of you swore by the dishwasher too!

I went the washing machine route, and they turned out just fine.  I’ve worn the latest version of this style shoe for over five years now.  Still my absolute fave and have never had any issues with them.

For my pace, it honestly changes daily.  I always say I’m the worst person to run with, as I change my pace every single day.  It honestly depends on how I’m feeling when I start, whether or not I want to run fast or slow and my mood.  And some days, there’s no pace at all.  I may run all out on my first mile, then walk some and catch my breath on the second mile.  It’s so random.  Can’t you tell that I’m a professional runner?  Haha.  But like I always say, just get out there and do it.  The feeling you get when you’re done, is like no other.  I swear by a runner’s high.  I love running in the morning and knocking it out.   Feels so good when I get home.  Ready to tackle the day and knowing I’ve already burned some calories to start the day.

That’s Vaughn in the background, at my parents’ house.  When I got back into running earlier this year, my mile was about 11 minutes.  Yes, very slow, but I didn’t care.  As I’ve gotten into better shape, my average pace is about 10 minutes and when I run all out, it’s still only 9 minutes.  I looked back at my running times recently, from five years ago, and I was running about an 8 1/2 minute mile and on pace too.  One day, I hope to get back to that.  I was also a lot thinner then too, so I know that helped.

I get lots of questions about what shorts I wear to run.  They’re by Lululemon, called the Speed Shorts.  Thankfully, I knew a good thing when I saw them and stocked up when I had the chance.  They’re currently discontinued, with the latest version being the Speed Up Shorts which I hate.  Don’t like that they’re shorter in the front and longer in the back.  But if they ever pick them up again, I’ll be sure and let you know.  Haven’t found anything else that remotely compares.

One thing’s for sure.  I love running.  I’m not going to say it’s easy.  I’m dying to catch my breath with the best of them, but I love having my 30 minutes of peace and listening to good music.  If you’re up for sharing your pics like I try to do daily on Instastories, tag #SSPDDM (the DDM part is my friend Annie, DIY Decor Mom, who is doing this with me) and we’ll try our best to repost it.  I’ve loved the pics that people have posted so far.  What motivates you, motivates me too.  Keep it up!

In other news, Costco is opening in Mount Pleasant, TOMORROW!  They’ve got all kinds of great products in stock!  Love these facial towelettes for removing make-up.  Such a great price on these!

I haven’t tried this yet, but Costco sent it to me as a sample and said it’s one of their most popular products.

And y’all know how much I love my Essie nail polish!  This is such a pretty collection of nudes, also available at Costco.  If you’re around the area, be sure and stop by the opening tomorrow, starting at 8am, located at 3525 Park Avenue Blvd.  See below for more details…

So earlier this year, I lost my car keys, including my keyless entry key fob.  While I ended up getting new keys and paid the hefty price tag to replace them, I found them three days later in a cup.  Don’t ask.  While I was looking for them, my mom kept telling me to get a ’tile’ for them.  Well, six months later, and I finally got around to ordering one.  I actually ordered a four pack.  One to keep on my key ring, another for the remote, another for my wallet, my laptop, etc.  Basically, it’s a tracker that can find whatever you attach a ’tile’ to and helps you find it when it gets lost.  Check it out here, if you’re interested in getting your own ’tile.’  They make great gifts too…especially for those who are prone to misplacing things.  Plus, they’ve got a great deal on a 4-pack right now – 50% off!

And finally, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite pieces lately…like these sandals!  I already have them in rose gold, but couldn’t resist the sparkly ones too.  For fit, they run a little small, I’m an 8.5 and wear an 9 in them.

I was definitely on a yellow kick this weekend.  This top is unbelievably soft.  It’s silky, but a little heavier than that.  A great quality top that I plan on wearing on into the Fall season.  Paired here with this bag and these earrings.  That’s my nephew Bo with the stellar photobomb.

Wore this yellow dress to church yesterday.  I’ll share more pics of it on tomorrow’s Wednesday Whereabouts post.

And finally, y’all this maxi dress (also available here) is amazing!  I’ve been wanting to try it on as soon as I saw it online.  Trust me, it’s even better in person!  Absolutely LOVE the fit, texture, color.  Just love it so much!  The straps are adjustable too.  If you’re wondering about height, I’m 5’6″ and it hits just above the ground on me.  So if you’re shorter, just plan on wearing it with wedges.  For fit, it’s true to size.  You can also adjust the tie in the front too.

I clearly had lots to share with y’all today!  Happy Tuesday!

  1. Yes, being able to order my kids’ school supplies ahead of time and having them show up on their desk the first day of school is huge!
