Mountain Weekend: Part One

This past weekend we headed to the mountains to see snow!  I decided about a week ago at the last minute that since we had a long weekend (the kids had Monday and Tuesday off of school) that we should head to the mountains and hope it would snow.  Little did we know that when we were hoping to see snow that we were definitely going to see A LOT!

Our first stop on the way to where we were staying was the Mast General Store in Banner Elk.  Brings back so many memories!  I used to camp around this area with friends and family in the summers, attend church trips at Valle Crucis, spend mountains weekends in college and ski at Beech, Sugar and Appalachian.

Allll the candy!!!

Lanier grilled some awesome steaks while the temps were majorly dropping.  It started snowing while we unpacked, but we knew that the major snow was coming.

Loved listening them talk about the snow as it fell the next morning when they woke up.  Little did we know this was just the beginning.

Enjoying all the comfort and coffee watching the snow fall outside.  And I have to tell y’all, this is my favorite blanket to date!  It’s super soft and I’ve washed and dried it and it’s just like new!  Couldn’t forget to pack my heart pajamas!

This was on Sunday morning when Lanier wanted to figure out if we’d have any chance to leave on Tuesday morning, if it were to keep snowing like this.

Before…

After!

Played lots of games and loved that the kids are all at an age that we can all play together.  This one was a fave!

Did y’all every play King’s Corner?  We used to play lots of card games growing up.  The girls love this one.

Blood Marys were delish!

Brought some vanilla extract, milk and some sprinkles to make some snow cream!

Had so much to share from the trip that I couldn’t share it all on one post.

  1. We made snow cream on the rare occasions we would get snow as kids. With sweetened condensed milk. My husband from Ohio has no clue what I’m talking about!
