Monday Manners: Gifts for the Hostess

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Thankfully today it’s raining, so hopefully it’ll cool things off a bit.  I’m back from Boston and Maine, and was more than thrilled to see my girls!  I’ve never left them for that long.  Although I had a great time visiting friends, I missed them a lot, especially the last day I was there.  Thankfully, I had them in loving, responsible hands.  My parents watched them from Wednesday-Friday, and the in-laws watched them from Friday-Monday.  I’m truly blessed to be able to leave them with trusting family members, and the best part is that they both live in town.

Well, now that we’re back, I have just enough time to get some laundry done, and then we’re off to Wild Dunes on Wednesday.  Thankfully, the couple we are going with begged us to bring the girls, so I couldn’t turn their invitation down.  I’m not sure if I would have gone, had they not been invited too.  That would be a little too long to be gone, especially after just leaving the girls last week.  They are seriously the nicest couple, and we love spending time with them, so needless to say we can’t wait to get down to the beach!

Now, the hard part has been deciding on what to bring our gracious hostess.  I’ve got a couple of ideas here, and since I don’t have much time to get something more thoughtful or crafty, these are what I’m deciding between.  Any other suggestions from y’all would be great too!  🙂

Nail Polish and a Good Book (any good summer suggestions?)

Key Lime Pie with Cute Napkins and a Pie Cutter
Candle (any good scents or brands you like?)

Gift Card to Dick’s Sporting Goods
(she’s a runner)
Wine with Cute Wine Charms
 A Cute Beach Towel

What do you think?  Which one would you like to receive from a friend?
Hope everyone has a great start to the week!

  1. Those all sounds like great ideas. If you want to go candles, Archipelago makes nice ones. I like the ones from Pacifica, too, and you can match lotions/bath gel to the candle scents. Some of Pacifica's scents are available at Sephora, if you have one of those handy.

  2. I always love wine, but love wine. LOL!

I think a candle is always great gift (love Votivo Forest or Deep Clover scent.).

I've given Mrs. Meyer's products in the past and they usually go over really well, too.

Of course, can't go wrong with Havaianas and some OPI for the toes.

  3. Ahsley, you always have the best ideas! I usually bring food/wine when I go to someone's house, but the idea of nailpolish is genius! That's going to be my new thing. Thanks for the tip!

  4. I would combo the flip flops and nail polish.
Also…I am a runner, too, so the gift card would be a great gift! My running blog: SeeMyMomRun.com
Key Lime pie is a favorite of mine, so that idea w/napkins and pie cutter is a very good one!
Unless you know their taste in books, I would not give a book.
And I don't like candles as a gift, personally.

  5. My vote would be for the Key Lim Pie! Yum! I can't wait to hear about the Wild Dunes Resort, we were thinking of going there in August. Can't wait to see pics of your fabulous weekend.

  6. My favorites are the flip flops and nail polish for summer! Although all are great ideas. Hope we get to see you before you leave again!

  7. What great ideas!! I would have never thought to give any of these things. I will remember them for the next place I go.
I would give the polish and Water for Elephants or The girl with the dragon tattoo were both great books!

  8. I think those are all great ideas! I also think it's nice to either take them out to eat or offer to fix/bring a meal. It is very gracious to host someone as your guest at the beach, and you want to be invited back:)

  9. I like ALL of these ideas, seriously!! I also like to do an OPI polish and a bottle of one of the Philosophy body washes, people seem to love their summer scents. Or the philosophy body wash and something that matches it – like they have a margarita one – so that and some fancy margarita mix from Williams-Sonoma!
Seriously – you can't go wrong with anything on your list!! 🙂

  10. im sure if any of these came from you, they would be the perfect gift! i love the idea of the key lime pie because it's something your hostess can share with others. but i also know williams sonoma has really nice candles as well! have tons of fun with the girls 🙂

  11. I really like both the pie package idea and the nail polish and the summer read (or maybe pair a book with a beach towel?) You're such a sweet guest!

  12. Great ideas!
I love the idea of a pie and cute pie cutter. I got a friend last year one that looked like a high heel shoe.

  13. I really wouldn't be able to decide! I LOVE my Havianas, LOVE wine, LOVE nail polish, LOVE candles… I do have a new favorite candle company. Voluspa. They have a new one called Laguna that is a great summer scent!

  14. I ADORE candles!! They are such a great hostess gift. Anthropologie has some beautiful ones that I like to indulge in from time to time 😉

Hope you have a wonderful week Love!
    B.

  15. Hmmm, I'd like the nail polish…love OPI and a book OR key lime pie, napkins, cutter…Of course I'd be happy with anything.

Love going to OPIs site and checking out the new shades…it lets you try them out on a virtual hand, pretty neat! http://www.opi.com/

Excited for tomorrow's post! Glad y'all had fun on your trip. Reading this post today was so coincidental since I posted about leaving GG today!

I know your pictures are going to be great!

  16. You could do a beach themed gift – beachy shade of nail polish, beachy read (Carrie Diaries?), a cute towel, a beachy scented candle…all in a cute beach tote. I saw really cute woven beach bags the other day at Walmart of all places…

  17. My blog post on Fri is all about hostess gifts…I wish it was earlier for your sake, but it looks like you have some great ideas! One of my favorites to give is nail polish with flip flops!

  18. Lately I've been looking at gourmet food items from Crate & Barrel ~ a mushroom dip mix and sun-dried tomato spread for sandwiches or vanilla sugars from Williams-Sonoma. Throw is a cute summery tea towel all in a basket and go visiting. 🙂 xoxo

  19. I shy away from giving the hostess anything she would feel obligated to "set out" in my presence (i.e., a piece of home decor). My favorite gift to give right now is a journal that coordinates with the hostess's guest room. She can either use it for herself, or do as I do and leave it for her guests to write special notes. These make really unique memories for her and interesting reading for her guests!
