Spiked Eggnog + Elf the Musical + OOTN

For this week’s Thirsty Thursday on Christmas Eve, I thought that no other cocktail would suffice except National Lampoon Christmas Vacation’s Spiked Eggnog.
And if you want to get even more nostalgic about the movie and drinking this cocktail, get Clark Griswold’s ever-popular moose mug.
Spiked Eggnog
(found it here)
Serves 6 (8oz glasses)
Prep Time: 15 minutes
3½ cups heavy cream, divided
6 eggs
1½ cups granulated sugar
Pinch of kosher salt
¼ cup Myers dark rum
½ cup Crown Royal whiskey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, plus more for garnish
1. In a large saucepan, heat 2½ cups of the cream over medium-low heat until it begins to simmer around the edges of the pan (do not let it boil).
2. While the cream is heating, whisk together the eggs, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Ladle out 1 cup of the warm cream mixture and slowly pour it into the egg mixture, whisking constantly. Scrape all of the egg mixture into the saucepan. Continue to cook, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, being sure to scrape the bottom of the pan as you stir, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of the spatula, a few minutes. The mixture should register 170 to 175 degrees F on an instant-read digital thermometer.
3. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl and allow to cool for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Whisk in the rum, whiskey, vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of the freshly grated nutmeg.
4. Whip the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the eggnog mixture, making sure the whipped cream is completely incorporated. Serve immediately, topping each serving with a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg. The eggnog can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. Be sure to gently whisk before serving.

Cheers, Y’all!

The children created these reindeer.  So simple and so cute!  Love these copper LED string lights!  May need to get more and keep them up all year.  My pjs pants are now on sale!

Our golf cart ride to the theater!

The girls and I went to see Elf the Musical last night, and we absolutely loved it!  It’s one of their favorite movies, so we were so excited to see it as a musical!

One of their favorite parts after shows is always talking to the musicians and seeing all the instruments.  Effie’s wearing this cute little sequin romper from Crewcuts.  Wheeler’s green velvet dress is vintage.
What I Wore

Mara Hoffman Dress (on sale here and here; obviously still a favorite of mine!) // Tory Burch Cardigan (also available here) // Gigi New York Crossbody (stored all of our tickets, pens, paper, wallet, etc. so well) // Madewell Heels (these run large, size down at least a half-size) // Julie Vos Ring
Lanier put together the Barbie Dreamhouse while we were at the musical.  Said it took him about an hour and didn’t understand what the hype was all about with people having trouble putting it together.  Maybe this year’s model is easier to assemble?  Who knows, but all I know is that I wish I’d asked for one when I was little.  I used to love Barbies and it is amazing!  I highly doubt the girls will ever use this feature since they don’t have phones, but there’s a spot where the tv is, where you can slide in your iPhone and the screen on it looks like the Barbies are watching tv.  I cannot wait to see Effie’s reaction tomorrow morning when she sees it!
Good luck to everyone still finishing up their shopping and wrapping!  And if you’re traveling today, prayers for safe travels!
Merry Christmas Eve!
