Wednesday Whereabouts: Charleston Re-Cap

A few months ago, Lanier and I planned this trip down to Charleston.  He’s a big fan of the band, The Drive By Truckers, so when he heard they were making their way down here, he decided we could make a fun trip out of it.  It turned out that the concert was actually part of a festival, but still so much fun, nonetheless. // I brought this book for the road trip, but only made it about ten pages in before falling asleep in the car.  Packing for all the kids and myself wore me out.  They stayed with my inlaws for the weekend, and had the best time, as usual! // Top // Shorts // Flats // Wrap Bracelet // Polish is Essie After School Boy Blazer
Needless to say, when we arrived in Charleston I had to hit up Starbucks for some caffeine!  We stayed on King Street while we there, so thankfully it wasn’t too far of a walk.
We strolled down to the battery.  As I mentioned last week, this was where Lanier proposed in October 2003.  Such a long time ago!  The sky was this clear all weekend long.
On Thursday night, we headed out with my friend Sam and her husband.
Top (sold out, but I have and love this one too, currently on sale) // Twine & Twig Necklace // Ring // Bracelet // Watch
The Obstinate Daughter was so good!  We’ll definitely be back there the next time we visit.  Lanier said of all the restaurants we enjoyed this weekend, this one was his favorite.  The company we had definitely made for a good night.  And thanks to Sam’s husband, I think we tried a little bit of everything off the menu!  The gnocchi was definitely my favorite, with the polenta fries a close second!
Wearing some Lilly on Friday.
I met up with Sam again at Caviar & Bananas for breakfast.  We kept it simple – yes, that’s coffee and bacon.  I wanted to leave room for brunch.  If you’re local, this place is exactly like Dean & DeLuca.
My friend Caycee and I met up for brunch on Friday at Park Cafe.  Lanier had to do some work on Friday morning, so it was a nice excuse to catch up and eat good food, until he was finished.  I need to find a place like this here!
On Friday night, we headed out for wine at our friends’ house and then out to dinner at The Red Drum, where we met up with one of my best friends and her husband. // Top (old Tibi, very similar here and on sale) // Necklaces // Bracelet
To say we had a good time would be an understatement.  Hate we had to leave!  The husbands were Lanier’s fraternity brothers, so we’ve known them for a long time.  Just really fun to catch up!
We woke up to much cooler weather on Saturday, which was so nice!

We headed to Hominy Grill for brunch.  If it had been a little later in the day, I would’ve ordered the Shrimp and Grits.  Instead, we ordered Bloody Marys and Fried Green Tomatoes.  I can’t remember my meal’s name, but eggs were definitely part of it.
Sipping and relaxing. // Sunglasses
By the time we got to the festival on Saturday afternoon, it had warmed up a little bit.  So I went from wearing my flats and cardigan
…to Flip Flops and no cardigan.  But thankfully I still brought layers because the temps dropped that night and if I hadn’t had my sweater, I would’ve been freezing!
The festival was called Hogs For The Cause.  There were seven different barbecue vendors from around Charleston and six bands played throughout the day.

Business in the front, party in the back.  My top is from Anthropologie from last year.  The back is silk.  Still regretting not getting the other prints in this one as well.  So comfy!  Click here to see my next Anthro purchase, still on my wish list for now. // MBMJ Crossbody
Home Team BBQ was in attendance!
On our last day, Lanier and I tried out Chez Nous.  A little restaurant tucked in an alley in the heart of Charleston.  If you drive by too fast, you’ll miss it.  While Lanier studied abroad in Florence for six months in college, he’s still not a huge fan of European eateries like this one.  But I loved it!
Top (currently under $40 with code: SOSWEET) Tote (sold out, similar here) // Wedges (sold out, but I almost wore these)
It had such a quaint, quiet, relaxing atmosphere.  And so nice to have another day to sit outside. // Sunglasses (similar here) // Lanier’s Shirt
 Each menu was handwritten.
The food was top notch!  Lanier loved his braised pork!
I think the weather helped us tremendously with our attitudes this weekend.  We had the best time, and soaked up every minute we had together.  Since we rarely have a chance to spend this much one-on-one time together, we really took advantage of it.  The last time we were here without kids it poured on us almost the entire time, and we ended up canceling many of our plans so we didn’t have to venture out into the monsoon.  But I will say, this was the right amount of time to be gone.  By late Saturday afternoon I really missed the kids, and on Sunday, I HAD to see them!  They were so happy to see us.  Wish I had gotten a pic of our group hug.  This was also the first time we boarded Boozer, so we couldn’t get him until Monday.  He was VERY VERY happy to be home too!
Just a reminder that today is the last day that the Violet and Neon Yellow Kendra Scott Rayne Necklaces will be marked down to $52 with code: SweetSouthernPrep.  Ends at midnight!
I’ll share a few more scenic pics of Charleston on tomorrow’s post, along with a yummy pink drink in the cutest glasses.
Happy Wednesday, Y’all!

  1. Sounds like you all had such a great time! Out of all the restaurants you tried, I've only been to Caviar and Bananas… and I've lived here for two years!! Sounds like I need to get to some more soon, I'm hoping to go to Hominy Grill for brunch this weekend, that bloody mary looks delish!
