Thirsty Thursday: Mint Julep Sweet Tea

In keeping with the Derby-themed drinks this month, here’s another yummy cocktail, I found in Southern Living’s May 2011 issue.

Mint Julep Sweet Tea
Yield: 4 cups, Preparation: 10 minutes

“This iced cocktail features combines the best of two classic Southern drinks: the mint julep and sweet tea.  For best results, sip in a rocking chair on a front porch somewhere…”

1/2 cup loosely packed fresh mint leaves
1 lemon, sliced
2 tablespoons sugar
3 cups cold sweetened tea
1 cup bourbon
Crushed ice
Garnish: Fresh mint sprigs

Combine first 3 ingredients in a 2-qt. pitcher. Press mint leaves against sides of pitcher with back of spoon to release flavors. Stir in tea and bourbon. Serve over crushed ice. Garnish, if desired.

Well, the Tory Burch iPhone Case I ordered during the Bloomingdale’s sale came in.

While I love the color, I didn’t realize it was for an iPhone 5, and I have a 4S, so sadly, I had to return it.
Even in the description, it says it fits an iPhone 4.  So odd.
This Kate Spade one is what I ended up choosing, and love it!
The gold shiny diagonal stripes are fun, but still neutral and classy.
As far as my Bloomingdale’s order goes, I ordered these Lilly Pulitzer Buttercup shorts, to hit the free shipping price, knowing I would return them, because I really just wanted the iPhone case.  Well, it turns out that I returned the Tory Burch case, but kept the shorts.  Absolutely LOVE Lilly Pulitzer’s Buttercup shorts!  Where have I been the last couple of years?  Then again, I guess these wouldn’t make the best maternity shorts.  But they sure work now!  I want them in every print and color!
Here’s what I paired them with last weekend…
J.Crew Vintage Cotton Tee (receive 25% off with code: SUNNYDAYS) // J.Crew Necklace (old, similar HERE) // Essie Guilty Pleasures // Essie Fiji // Chanel Coco Mademoiselle // Jack Rogers Navajo Sandals // Lilly Pulitzer Buttercup Shorts

I hope my midwestern SSP readers are staying warm!  Still can’t believe the weather y’all are having, compared to here.  It’s unusually warm for this time of year.  I think it hit 84 degrees today?!

Cheers, Y’all!

  1. I need to try those shorts- my problem with some of the Lilly shorts that I have tried is that they are a little see through. Did you have that problem?
