I hope y’all are having a wonderful weekend, enjoying a longer holiday weekend with friends and family. We’re anticipating the upcoming DNC, starting tomorrow, here in the Queen City, which we know will bring lots of traffic and crowds. Here’s hoping I can get the girls to school ON TIME tomorrow, for their first day of school… Let’s just say I’ll be glad when this week is OVER!
For fun, here are more Southern Belle “Secrets” (21-50), I found HERE. I feel like some of these are so old-fashioned, but probably still are relevant in many Southern cities, even today. Which ones stick out to you?
21. Sundays = church goin’ and front porch sittin’
22. country, blues, and jazz
23. “ma’am” or “sir” can be added to the end of every sentence without being redundant
24. never do anything that you can charm someone else into doing for you
25. when the azaleas bloom, you know it’s time to bring out the pageant dresses
26. if anyone tells you a southern girl shouldn’t drink, tell them we don’t drink. we sip… a lot
27. the only thing we’ll suck the head of is a crawfish
28. your wedding is the most important party you’ll ever throw. until your daughter gets married, that is
29. nothing too easy, or done too quickly is going to be right. it takes time to create perfection, whether it is your tea or your hair
30. the air is as thick as our accents
31. we all have a “bubba”
32. you can tell a girl has class according to the thickness of her eyebrow
33. the bible belt
34. don’t own wranglers? don’t talk to me
35. we’re all steel magnolias at heart
36. we like our food spicy, and our gossip spicier
37. gossiping like our grandmas did in the hair salons
38. we greet one another with bits of gossip, not salutations
39. the reason southern belles have such big hair is because of all the gossip and secrets stored up in there
40. we deal with our problems in a discreet and graceful manner
41. front porches are wide and words are long
42. always keep a koozie in your purse, car/truck, or kitchen
43. nothin’ better than your momma always being there for you
44. it’s not a hollow, it’s a holler
45. flip-flops are worn all year long
46. wearin your Kentucky Derby best, sippin on mint julips, and bettin on horses
47. dressing up in your sunday best to go cheer on your school’s football team
48. we own three generations of Lilly Pulitzer dresses and know how to wear all of them to a football game or cocktail party
49. southern hospitality is NOT a myth
50. a proper lady never spits. anything.
