Father’s Day is this Sunday, the 19th! I always forget how quickly this holiday catches up to me, with the end of school and Wheeler’s birthday, and summer break! While Lanier doesn’t really like to shop for clothes for himself, I always get him to pick out some new pieces for Father’s Day, whether it be a new shirts, new shoes, etc. I wish I could say this is the time he chooses new waders for hunting or a new fishing rod, but he usually buys those things on his own. And that’s when he wants them and doesn’t wait around for a birthday or special occasion to get them. I’m totally okay with that, but as for new clothes, Father’s Day always seems like the perfect time to shop for them.
He’s pretty much had the same go-to look since he was in high school – khakis, plaid shirt, rainbows and a pair of shades. Trust me, there’s nothing wrong with that. I loved it then, just as much as I do now. But since he usually picks the exact same things, and wears them out until he needs a fresh new pair – his Rainbows flip flops, for instance – I do try and get him to buy some pieces that are classic, but more on trend.
It’s no secret that Nordstrom is my go-to place to shop for pretty much everything, but especially when I’m shopping for men. They recently featured this men’s essentials section, so I made sure to check it out before I started recommending new pieces for Lanier. Here are all ten below…
What Every Well-Dressed Man Needs this Summer
6. Board Shorts
10. Sun Care
So what do y’all think? Do you agree with this list? I think it’s a pretty spot-on list for essentials for summer.
In every wardrobe, naturally sunglasses are a staple. Lanier basically wears the same pair until he either loses them or breaks them. Most of the time he wears his aviators (I’m actually wearing his in the pic and these earrings), but this year I wanted him to pick out something a little different. I still stayed with Ray-Bans since I know he likes that designer, but checked out the ‘men’s essentials’ and saw that they featured tortoiseshell sunglasses this season, so I ended up picking out a pair of these, and he loves them.
I knew Lanier’s look has always been pretty classic, but was happy to see that as part of the summer wardrobe essentials that comfortable flip-flops were on the list. Seriously though, if you’re looking for a great gift, Rainbow sandals are a must. Lanier even gave a pair to his dad at least ten years ago, and he still continues to wear them almost everyday. They match his belt perfectly.
Another classic that every guy should have are tailored shorts. I know, I know, it’s not the best, most creative Father’s Day gift, but trust me, they will still love them, nonetheless. Lanier has a few of these Vineyard Vines shorts in khaki and stone, and pairs them with almost every shirt in his closet throughout the summer months.
While I really wanted Lanier to get this Vineyard Vines short-sleeve shirt, he wasn’t having it. But he did like the plaid pattern, but wanted different colors. The closest shirt I could find was this one, and as an added bonus it’s linen, so it’ll stay nice and cool on hot, summer days.

My OOTD
Essie Navy Sleeveless Dress (absolutely LOVE this dress; I’m clearly on a cotton dress kick lately, but in this heat, it’s the most comfortable, cool thing to toss on!) // Fringe Crossbody // Sandals (a new light beige color, true to size) // Essie Polish is Marshmallow
Also pictured on today’s post: Effie’s Romper (you’ll see this again in a later post) // Girls’ Silver Sandals
I hope y’all had a great weekend! It was super hot here, but the boat was so much fun on Saturday. We’d planned on going to the Spoleto Finale yesterday, but decided at the last minute that it was just going to be too hot. I think it hit 101 out there! Can’t wait to share more pics of our weekend with you on this week’s Wednesday Whereabouts. Hope y’all have a great start to your week!
