How I Do It: A New Work-Out for A New Year + A $19 Go-To Top You Need

With the snow finally starting to melt away, it’s time to get the kids back to school and time for a ROUTINE!  Because of the snow, they were supposed to go back this past Thursday, but they’re finally starting back tomorrow.  That’s not to say it hasn’t been a fabulous extra long break, I’ve just been putting off organizing and getting into a good exercise routine until after the holidays. Well, you know that turned into after the snow.  So now the time has finally come!

As for organization, my goal is simply to clean out more boxes from the move.  My goal is to go through at least one box per day and continue to have purging on my mind.  We tried to purge as much as we could before the move, but I’m still wishing we’d purged more.  We simply have too many things that I want to hold onto and just can’t anymore (old trophies, old teaching lesson plans, mixed tapes (okay, I may need to keep holding onto those haha).  But there’s just not enough space.  And I’m okay with that.  It’s finally time to really clean out.

On what I’m planning on doing to get in shape…

With the move and everything stressful about a move, I put exercising on the major back burner.  I did keep up with tennis, but some days if you win (or lose) pretty quickly, you’re not on the court long enough to get a true work-out, especially if it’s doubles.  I live for singles!  But this spring I’ll be on two teams so I’m anxious to get back to that.  Our first match is tomorrow!

Aside from tennis, I know I need to do something else.  I’d love to start back running, but I despise running in cold weather.  Give me 90 degree runs all day long.  That’s my favorite.  But 30 degrees, not my type of fun.  But over the weekend, I did grab some new gloves and a headband to cover my ears, in case I get the urge.

My goal is to make it to Orange Theory at least twice a week.  I went yesterday morning at 7:30 and forgot how much I loved that class.  While I’m still going to try and make it to two of those classes per week, I’m going to try another exercise program…

Y’all may remember last January I started a new program.  I loved it so much but you know with so many resolutions it went by the wayside around March.  Well, this time around I’m hoping to be more committed, especially when the new program involves an 80 day series and promises a new work-out every single day.

The best part?  They’re all streamed videos from an app on your phone so you can do them whenever/wherever you want.  While I didn’t stick to the program very well last year, the streaming videos sure came in handy this past week when all the gyms were closed and it was snowing outside.  Even if it’s a rainy day, I’d much rather work-out in the comfort of my own home rather than trek it over to the gym.

If you’re new to this program and want to do it with me, there are a lot of options.

You can simply get the app (that includes the 80-day program) here.  Be sure and choose the option on the right.  There are so many fabulous work-outs from Yoga to Extreme Cardio and it’s only $99 right now for an entire year.  Way cheaper than being a member of any gym.  They also have a great 21-day work-out too.  Maybe even chat with a roommate or two and go in together and get it one app.  It’ll make you more accountable to have more people doing it with you.  Some work-outs require weights while others do not.

To participate in the 80-day program, you’ll need this set of equipment with multi-colored bands and floor sliders.  I was all about looking on Amazon for these items, but apparently the teacher instructs you to use different colors for different work-outs and it’s easier if you have the exact ones in front of you.

I’m going to replace one meal each day with this shake with hopes of losing weight along with getting in better shape.  Love this comparison above.  And you can also mix your shakes up with other healthy ingredients so you’re not drinking the same drink everyday.  There are also multi variety packs just in case you don’t want all chocolate or all vanilla.  I think I’m going to go with the monthly triple variety pack with chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.  Check out all of your options here.

Please don’t feel like you have to do all of this if you don’t want to.  This is just what I’m going to try.  I’ll also be taking this energize drink in the morning.  It’s said to help curb your appetite and give you energy throughout your workout and your day.  If I’m planning on early morning work-outs, I’ll definitely be needing this.  Check it out here if you’re interested.

And finally, if you just want to try the whole she-bang that includes everything I’ve mentioned above, get this pack.  It’s all a one-time deal except for the shakes that will be sent to you monthly, as long as you’re on the program.  You can stop whenever you’d like.

I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of excited to try this new 80-day program.  It all starts on the 15th for me!  If any of you are attempting it too, I’d love to know your thoughts.  And if you have any more questions, I’d be happy to help.  Email me at sweetsouthernprep at gmail with any questions.  You can also comment on today’s post too.

I’m so ready to get into better shape for the new year!  It’s been way too long!

If you’re looking for a go-to top to wear alone or for layering, get this one.  It’s only $19 and it’s long enough to cover your rear!

Hope y’all have a great start to your week!

  1. Good morning! It finally warmed up to 35 degrees today and on the way to school drop off, I saw several runners! I’m with you though, I enjoy running in warmer weather (at least above 50!). Loved your necklace! Is it from Twine & Twig? Thanks!

  2. Hey Ashley

I’m starting the 80 day challenge to next week! I’m a little scared but I think that it will be great once I get started

  3. Thought about trying Orange Theory on my girls trip to Savannah as they do offer drop in classes. Are they hard? Only downside was having to arrive 30 mins early to a class for an orientation..

    1. They’re as hard as you make them. You aim to get into the orange zone. So striving to get there is the hard part. But that’s the best workout too. 😉

    2. Girl you don’t have to be there 30 min early. It’s so dumb how they say that. I’d say 15 min is perfectly fine and even 10 would be OK! Try it – it’s a great workout, like Ashley says, they are as hard as you make them. I always feel like I busted my butt – and I have tried EVERY workout out there. These are the all-around best!
