Barbados Smile Cocktail + Another Spring Dress Favorite

This week’s cocktail is a delicious one I enjoyed yesterday, while we were visiting some spots around Key West.  The kids especially loved this place because it had a fun playground nearby.  If we had more time, they would’ve spent hours playing there.  It was pretty vacant and right on the beach.

Love this shot of the girls!  Pure happiness in their Lilly shifts!

Barbados Smile
(add ingredients to taste)
Mount Gay Eclipse Rum
Amaretto
Creme de Banana
Pineapple Juice
Can’t wait to try this one again at home!
Anything with banana and pineapple flavors reminds me so much of the beach!
Cheers!

With palm trees and pineapples around every corner, this Lilly Pulitzer Monterey Dress for Spring Break was a no-brainer.  I mean it’s pink and green and swingy and comfy.  I bought this dress last year in a different print that I still love, so when I saw it came out in this pink/green/pineapple print at Nordstrom the other day, I knew right away that I was going to order it.  It fits exactly the same as last year’s style.  I’m 5’6″ and love where it hits on my legs.  I’m not one to wear dresses too short, and I felt like this one was just right.  While I plan on wearing this during the day like I did yesterday, I also like wearing it as a cover-up.
I love the back of it too, a little different than your typical jersey swing dress.  For fit, it runs a little big but I still went with a small and love it.  If you’re still trying to decide between two sizes, remember that Nordstrom is really awesome about returns, and it’s super easy and free.  I would order two sizes and simply return the one that doesn’t fit.  Nordstrom sends you a sticky return label with every order, so there’s no need for printing return slips.  Love that!

I paired my dress with my Jack Rogers Lauren Sandals.  These fit true to size and are super comfortable.  I’ve only had them a little over a week and was able to wear them walking all over downtown Key West without any blisters or soreness.

A few of you asked how I tamed my hair while I was down here.  The weather here is much like Charleston, so I brought my Morrocan Oil to tame the frizz.  I apply it before blowdrying it.  As for my hairdryer, I use this GHD one.
For most of our trip, we stayed close to our hotel, but yesterday afternoon we ventured out around Key West and visited some fun spots.  Since we had the kids, we didn’t attempt waiting in line at the Southernmost Point buoy or the Ernest Hemingway House, but we found some places that we loved!

My Smartphone Wristlet came in extra handy for this trip.  Was small and easily kept everything in one place.

When I think spring dresses, I typically turn to pastel colors, but with the weather quickly warming up, spring is already feeling summery to me.  Below, I’m sharing other spring dresses I’m loving…

What a trip we’ve had!  Lanier’s grandmother is in the hospital so we’re leaving a little early to visit her on the way back home.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather or better company this week.  Definitely a Spring Break I hope they’ll never forget!  I certainly won’t!
Happy Thursday!
Thank you to Nordstrom for their partnership on this post.

  1. Hi Ashley! We are just on the road to Key West now from Miami. Any reccs would be appreciated! We aren't with our kids and are meeting a bunch of my husband's Villanova college friends for a little getaway. I'm hoping we get good weather too!

  2. You are looking especially beautiful in these pictures (not that you aren't always adorable!) I think pink in green is your color scheme 🙂

  3. Hi Ashley!

I am planning a bachelorette party in Charleston, end of April, for one of my best friends. Any recommendations on musts for dinner, sights, bars, etc?

    Thank you!!!

  5. The last family shot is adorable! I'm 5'7" and have a hard time deciding if dresses will be too short on me based on a retailer's pictures. Don't you have a length guideline? Please share!
