Fashion Friday: Lilly Pulitzer: Unusually, a No-Go this Time

You can imagine my excitement when I got an email informing me to check out Lilly’s latest dress, the Ashley Dress.  Unfortunately, I will not be wearing this dress.  Haha.  It’s not exactly my favorite design, and it looks like a bit too much Lilly fabric for my taste.  No offense if you like it.  But one thing I must say I DO like, is the description:  “As she swept down the long grass lawn the party came to a hush. NOTHING says summer like a long strapless Lilly dripping in color and print.”  Sounds fun, doesn’t it, except maybe without the lace?

Now, on to the Lilly dresses that have caught my eye lately.  Which one do you like best?  #1, #2, or #3

Oh, and sorry to disappoint some of you, but I actually returned the two pairs of Miss Trish sandals from Target, that I ordered about a week ago, and blogged about here.  I really loved them both; they fit well and looked so cute, but I decided to order a pair of Bonanno’s instead.  I only have Jack Rogers sandals in neutral colors, so when I found out about the great deal this week, $20 off, I knew I needed to order a fun, colorful pair that I’ll probably wear more often than the Target sandals, and will hopefully last longer too.

Because of the high volume during the annual sale, my sandals won’t be ready for 15 weeks!  They’ll be worth the wait for sure.  At that point, I’ll probably have forgotten I’d even ordered them, and they’ll be a great summer surprise.  Cheers!  Oh yeah, I was racking my brain trying to decide what color combination to go with.  So naturally, and with a little help from Beth Dunn‘s personal opinion, I chose a Lilly green base (citrus) with a Lilly pink whipstitch (arbutus).  Oh, and if you haven’t read her book, you should, Social Climbers.  It’s available on Kindle now too.  So genius!  Gotta love her tag line at the end of each blog post too:  Collars Up!

And an extra thanks to The Tale of a Southern Belle and All Things Southern and Preppy for help with sizing.  Hugs to my wonderful blogger friends!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
TGIF!

  1. Good morning!
OK so I totally agree with you on the Ashley dress.
I am 5'1 (ish) so it would NOT be a good idea for me to even attempt
and if I did, i'd feel too much like a roll of upholstery fabric.
If you're a tall, skinny, drink of water, by all means wear it with pride but I will not. 🙂
I love the pockets in dress #1 (Blossom)
I know I'd get more wear out of #2 though (Tori)

    Happy Friday

  2. Actually, I like the "outcast dress"! Call me strange… Now if only I can find the lawn party to go with it 🙂

  3. I like dress #2 the best. It's gorgeous in person; the pictures don't do it justice. Adelson is also gorgeous, but I'd wear #2 more. I am not too sure about the pockets on #1.

    Have a great weekend. xoxo

  4. I LOVE #3!!! They're all darling though. Can't wait to see your new sandals and new giveaway. Have a wonderful weekend, Ashley!

  5. Lilly dress #1 caught my eye today too! (And I have been a fan of #3 for a while now…) I plan on ordering my Bonannos today (using your code) and I'm tres excited. The perfect sandals to celebrate the start of summer!

    Have a wonderful weekend! XO

  6. I love #1. Yellow in the summer is just so beautiful, like a breath of fresh air. #3 is a close second.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. I'm not a huge fan of the long dress, I guess I feel like its so formal. I love #2 especially the cute, so unique! Glad you ordered Bonanno's I don't have Jacks but I'm sure you'll love them! Happy Derby Weekend!

  8. Hey honey, I am SO with you on this post, that Ashley dress (while gorgeous especially on that tall skinny model) would never work on me, but I am sure there are a few people out there who could pull it off. The colors are pretty, it's just all wrong for me. 🙂

Oh so hard to choose a favorite of your picks, but it would be between #1 and #2 for me, #2 being more practical of the two, but #1 being so fun and flirty (plus – both have pockets)

I hope you have the most wonderful weekend, please give the girls a big hug from Trishy! xox

  9. I love dress number 3! My stepmother wears pretty much nothing but Lilly, some of the stuff I like, some of it, eh! She even work a pink and green silk Lilly ensemble to our wedding! LOL, it totally works for her, though! Great post, thanks for the info on the shoes!

  10. good move abt the sandals. I think you will be happier in the long run. I'm not loving the long Lilly dress either.

I think out of your picks, I'm going with #3..which is a weird pick for me b/c it's the least lilly-ish. Hmm.

Have a great weekend! xox MBM

  11. I am in love with the first dress. It's gorgeous!!
