Weekend Inspiration: Exodus 20 The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments

1.  You shall have no other gods before Me.
2.  You shall not make for yourself a carved image – any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
3.  You shall not take the name of your Lord your God in vain.
4.  Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5.  Honor your father and your mother.
6.  You shall not murder.
7.  You shall not commit adultery.
8.  You shall not steal.
9.  You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male
servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.

Which commandment is the one you need to work on the most, in your life right now?  Pray about if often, and the Lord will help give you the strength you need, to do what is right.

Do you wonder which commandments were the most important to Jesus?  He states it in Matthew 22:36-40, after 1400 years, when religious “experts” of the day questioned him.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied:  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and Prophets hangs on these two commandments.”

In our daily devotion, let us think:  Do we love the Lord as much as we should, and do we share this love with others around us?  Remember, as we love others, and show this love, we are indeed being an awesome witness.

  1. Thanks for the inspiration! Going out for the youth golf fundraiser today 🙂 Only one more full week of school!

  2. Great post! There's another scripture that I think kind of applies. It talks about when words are not enough being a witness through your actions. Sometimes it's so easy to say the words, such as I'm going to be nice to my (insert description) coworker/neighbor/family member but putting this into practice is the hard part!

  3. Thanks Ashley. I enjoyed the devotion and the pictures! I needed the devotion as I didn't go to church this morning and did a triathlon instead, really enjoyed the pictures and commandments.

  4. Thank you for sharing such an inspirational post. We've been studying similar passages&themes in the Bible, both at church & in our devotionals at home.

    Have a great week!

  5. I am searching for the owner of the image of Moses in a Tallit holding up the 10 commandments and they form a heart. I would like permission to use the image in a post of my own. If you have any information about the origins of the image please let me know. tamarasolomonson@yahoo.com
