I know summer hasn’t officially started, but the girls are now out of school, so it’s started at this house. Nothing like a yummy cocktail to ring in the summer months. Cannot believe June will be here next week!
This tasty cocktail created by Bobby Flay (found here) will require some time to prepare, but it’ll be well worth it. Plus, it makes 8 drinks. And if you’re expecting an even larger number, I’d double it.
Makes 8 Drinks
1/4 Cup Water
1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
8 Cups Diced Seedless Watermelon (1 pound)
1/4 Cup Fresh Lime Juice
1 3/4 Cups Blueberries
3/4 Cup Lightly Packed Fresh Mint Leaves
8 Mint Sprigs for Garnish
1 1/4 Cups Silver Tequila
1. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a simmer with the sugar and stir over moderate heat until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute; let the sugar syrup cool.
2. In a blender, puree the watermelon until smooth. Set a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl and strain the watermelon juice, pressing gently on the solids to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp.
3. In a large pitcher, combine the sugar syrup with the lime juice, blueberries and mint leaves. Using a wooden spoon, lightly muddle the blueberries and mint. Add the watermelon juice and tequila. Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours.
4. Pour the cocktail into tall ice-filled glasses. Garnish with the mint sprigs and serve.
Lilly Pulitzer is on Rue La La today. Hurry, it started yesterday and sizes are going quickly. I’m sad I didn’t catch this at the beginning of the sale. Many great dresses were already sold out that I would’ve loved to have owned. But looking through, there are lots of great pieces still available, like this pretty green one! If you’re unfamiliar with Rue La La, click here for your free invitation, and there’s never an obligation to buy, just lots of great designers at marked down prices.
Mara Hoffman has teamed up with Havaianas to create some pretty awesome flip flops. There are a few different prints available, but these are definitely my favorite.
If you’re a regular reader you’ll know that I love a good pouf. We even have an orange one, and little L has always called it a big pumpkin. My children use them to sit on in our house, and I use them as foot stools. While I’d love to say I could use it as a table, I just don’t think it could happen. With four kids running around, drinks definitely wouldn’t balance well on one. This explains the room below.
Today I’m participating in One Kings Lane‘s Pouf-a-Palooza! They asked if I would showcase a fun way on how I would use a pouf/poufs. While I have no room or enough clean hands to showcase this lovely room in our home, it sure would be a dream. Notice how I even added in some children’s classics to the coffee table book assortment. While this room would probably be off limits to the kids if it was in our home, I’d consider reading them a book or two in here…only after dinner and bath time. If interested, click here for One King’s Lane’s Home Decor Resource Guide. And if you’re not a member yet, click here for your free invitation to One King’s Lane. The prices on their pieces are pretty hard to beat, and just like Rue La La, there’s never an obligation to buy.
