Monday Manners: Southern Belle Secrets and Another Groopdealz Giveaway!

Hope y’all had a wonderful weekend!  Ours was pretty relaxing, and after staying up until after  midnight every night last week, to watch the Olympics, we went to bed early last night (well, 11pm), but it was so nice to feel more rested this morning!

I found these “secrets” HERE.  There are a lot more on the list, but this time I thought I share the first twenty with y’all.  What do y’all think?  My Southern Belle readers, do you agree with these?

1. hay is for horses

2. i’d rather be nekkid

3. northerners bug you

4. cowboy boots are essential

5. the only reason you go to college is to get your MRS degree

6. it’s tea, not sweet tea. it should always come sweet.

7. y’all

8. a moderately attractive man can become a god if he plays a banjo

9. ain’t no thang but a chicken wang

10. fried chicken, fried pickles, fried shrimp, fried steak, fried ocre, fried crab, fried eggs, fried bananas FRIED EVERYTHING

11. we don’t sweat, we glisten

12. β€œbless your heart” is the worst curse you can get

13. β€œsweetie” is not a true term of endearment, but thinly veiled condescension

14. sundresses. all day, everyday.

15. you go to college. you join a sorority. you find a husband. you become a house wife. you have children. children repeat cycle.

16. the higher the hair, the closer you are to heaven

17. we know how to properly use the word β€œfixin”

18. knowing the family history. we’re southern royalty.

19. dying to be a KA’s date to formal just to wear the dress

20. everyone is your darling

#19 is so true for me!  My husband’s dad was a KA, and ever since I saw photos from his Old South Ball when I was in high school, while in college, I wanted to date a KA in college…just to get to wear the dress!  My mom wore one when she was in college, and my youngest sister (who dated a KA throughout college) wore my mom’s old Southern Belle dress to the Old South Ball.  Well, needless to say, I married a Sigma Chi, so no Old South Ball for me, but I was the Sigma Chi Sweetheart…still didn’t get to wear the Southern Belle dress though…ha!

Did anyone take advantage of the Tax-Free weekend?  I got all the girls’ back-to-school shoes, stocked up on bows, and placed a few children’s boutique orders.  I think they’ll be set for school, once it starts back on September 4th!  I’ll share with y’all what I got for them on Fashion Friday, but here’s one of my favorites, that they love too…

Hope y’all have a wonderful start to your week!  We’re off to a friend’s pool today.
The dog days of summer have definitely arrived!

  2. I love those secrets! Hush now, don't tell those people that when I call them "Sweetie" I'm being like that πŸ˜‰
I went out Friday during tax free weekend, but I only braved Old Navy in hopes of jeans for the girl child. No real luck.
I follow you and "like" Groopdealz. I love that green one.

  3. I am a follower and liked Groopdealz on Facebook!

Love the list. I recently noticed a # 6 error. I was watching Hart of Dixie, and a character offered "sweet tea." The show needs a southern consultant.

    Rosemary

  4. I'm from Texas, so we're Southern, but we put our own twist on things. πŸ˜‰ Here's my take on this list.

    3. northerners bug you…Personally, anyone not from Texas or the South bug the heck out of me.

    5. the only reason you go to college is to get your MRS degree…If my daughter ever said that to me I'd yank her out of college so fast her head would spin until she got her head on straight. You go to college to get an education…not to scope out guys. That's an awfully expensive meet market if that's all you're using it for. You should apologize to your parents for wasting their money. Young ladies these days need at least a Masters degree to get by, with or without a husband.

    6. it’s tea, not sweet tea. it should always come sweet…In Texas, you're not always guaranteed sweet tea if you just say tea. You have to say sweet tea.

    8. a moderately attractive man can become a god if he plays a banjo

    11. we don’t sweat, we glisten…Honey, Texas is the hottest & most humid state, we not only sweat, we drip. We're doing good to not be drenched by the end of the day. There's a reason Houston was the first city with air conditioning.

    18. knowing the family history. we’re southern royalty…knowing family history is important. In Texas, those who know their family histories & can prove it are Daughters of the Republic of Texas (my grandmother, my mother & me).

Like I said…Texas puts its own twist on what it means to be Southern. πŸ˜‰

    1. Haha! Love this! I'm from Texas too and my mama would yank me out of college if I said I was going to get my MRS degree! (ps. Hook em horns! I'm proud of my education!) And I couldn't agree more about dripping sweat. People don't understand!

  5. I love these southern belle rules as well! My family and I just moved to Austin and I really hope my 1 1/2 yr old picks up saying y'all! Everyone is so kind and I really hope I can do a good job in raising my daughter with good manners. I also was a sorority girl (Delta Gamma) and some of my best guy friends from college were Sigma Chi's. I was actually the sweetheart from my house.
