Monday Manners: Rules for the Southern Belle

These are just a few rules I found from ashandbelle.com, about Southern Belles.  Please add more rules because I know there are so many out there.  I thought these were cute though.  Hope y’all had a great weekend!

A Southern Belle…

– Never wears white before Easter, and after Labor Day, except if it’s a bride.

– Knows that thank you notes are a necessary component of being gracious and appreciative.

– Never chews gum or smokes on the street.

– Never shows anger in public.  She smiles and acts like a lady.

– Acts helpless and confused when it’s to her advantage (never let them know how clever and capable you really are).  Love that one!

– Charm! Charm! Charm!

– Is elegant and graceful.

How many of y’all nailed almost everyone?  There are a couple I need to work on, but that’s fine.  Always room for improvement, right?

tacky – a common word used most often by Southern women describing someone’s behavior or appearance.

Look at those tacky clothes she wore to the funeral.  (As quoted by www.ashandbelle.com)

  1. I just love reading southern belle rules and following them! I am so proud to be a southern belle! 🙂 One of my favorite rules is to never drink straight from a bottle, pour it in a glass and never use a straw.

I hope your weekend was great and you have a wonderful day! 🙂

  2. What a perfect post, and so beautifully illustrated! Love love loving the coordinated polo and PLAYDOH!! She is the cutest little doll!

  3. You definitely have the makings of another southern belle. Who ever would have thought of coordinated play doh :-). Actually I think she's going to be a princess. You asked about substituting whole milk fro goat's milk. If you use goat cheese it will work but it won't be as rich. I hope you and the princess are having a great day. Blessings…Mary

  4. I absolutely love this post. It couldn't be more accurate!! I cringe at the idea of wearing white before Easter and after Labor Day, regardless of what fashion magazines say!!

Mental Note: Should I ever be blessed with a daughter, her play-do must match her outfit. Too cute!

  5. Your daughter is adorable!

I have to say that the thank you note is slowly dying. It seems like the younger generations just don't do it. Personally, I love thank you notes and agree that they are essential.

    Cheers,
    Marcie

  6. I love reading your Monday manners! And I LOVE that it says you can wear white after Easter instead of Memorial Day. I'm totally on board with that. The picture of your daughter is so sweet.

  7. Love love love this post! Those are all the things my mother taught me growing up! I am always completely shocked by people who think chewing gum on the street or (gasp) while having a conversation is acceptable! Haha my husband always makes fun of me when I describe something as tacky!

  8. I like the emma embroidered pair,or the monogram pair in green with hot pink initials (I own those) or I like the black betty's are super cute!

  9. Monday manners is such a cute idea! I am not southern but can I be a belle anyway?! Full discolure before you decide: I do wear white almost year round but in Chicago, if I waited for bright sunny days, I could only wear it in July 🙂

  10. I'm sorry girl, I don't know. I'm one of those, that I'm a solid 8. I always order 8s in everything and they fit. Honestly, I would just call them. They are so nice!

  11. Awww, so happy to find yet another sweet Southern blogger! A Southern girl doesn't smoke and walk at the same time (or probably smoke at all, these days). A Southern girl doesn't drink unsweetened iced tea? I'll have to think on it for awhile, you've definitely got a lot of it wrapped up in this post, though! Love your blog, I'll be following for sure, and will give more thought to what "we" do and don't do! Cheers!

  12. Hey Ashley – I have an answer from Vivian at Stephen Bonanno Sandals about your size question. I'm copying it into this comment! Hope this helps! xoxo

"it can be very challenging to answer this question, but here goes …

JR run narrow and from what i understand do not have a true 1/2 size
SBS are a true B width and length and have a true 1/2 size. we go from size 5 to 15 in women's sizing.

FYI: in either brand, when deciding the size, the soles never change width, just the top straps.

I am never certain with the JR Brand because I hear there are so many ways they size …
    with that said:

If someone is a size 9 in JR and they fit snug, then most likely they are a size 9 with an 8.5 top in SBS (because we are a B width which means a little bigger on top).
if the JR tops are tight then, they may be a straight size 9 in SBS with the tops feeling snug.

If someone is a size 9.5 in JR, then they would be a straight size 9 in SBS. Keep in mind JR soles are narrow and SBS soles are a true B."

  13. Thanks so much for letting know you liked the macaroni 'n' Ceese. It's always nice to have feedback. Hugs…Mary
