In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tieks was kind of enough to send me these classic Ballerina Pink Tieks. They teamed up with the American Cancer Society to educate others on the importance of early detection. To raise awareness, the Tieks Team included these very important facts about breast cancer, that I wanted to share with you.
In the U.S., 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Every 19 seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with breast cancer.
Every 15 minutes, a woman dies of breast cancer.
When breast cancer is detected early in the localized stage, the 5 year survival rate is over 95%.
It has been estimated that if every woman over the age of 50 had her yearly mammogram, breast cancer deaths in this age group would drop by 25% or more.
Breast Cancer Awareness has always been super important to me. I know you can’t go through life being scared about what might happen to you or a loved one, because in this world, you just never know. I still remember learning in elementary school that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and it freaked me out! In my family, there are seven girls (my five sisters and my mom), so the odds are definitely not in our favor. But now I just stay optimistic and pray that none of us are ever diagnosed with it. If there’s anything you can do, encourage your friends, family and other loved ones to get routine check-ups and mammograms, so that if any of them should be diagnosed, it will have been detected early!
