Cosmopolitan + Running + Summer Dreaming

For New Year’s Eve, my dad created some tasty cocktails.  He’s always enjoyed being a mixologist.  His jalapeño margaritas are amazing!  He recently bought this book, Vermouth, and says he’s going to try out some of them soon.  He and my mom gifted me this Garden & Gun Cookbook for Christmas.  Can’t wait to try out some of the tasty recipes!  Back to the concoctions, my favorite cocktail of the night was this Cosmopolitan.  I used to drink these years ago, and probably haven’t had one in over five years.  But it’s still so good!  He doesn’t make his as sweet, which I love.  Hope you enjoy it!
Cosmopolitan
2 ounces (1/4 cup) Vodka
1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) Triple Sec
3/4 ounce (1 tablespoon + 1 1/2 teaspoons) Cranberry Juice
1/4 to 1/2 ounce (1 1/2 teaspoons to 3 teaspoons) Fresh Lime Juice
1 2-inch Orange or Lemon Peel Twist
Ice
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and lime juice.
Shake the cocktail shaker until well chilled.
Strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with orange or lemon peel twist.
It’s that simple and so super delicious!
Cheers!
You’ll notice the necklaces (champagne, shaker and coupe) in the photo.  My friend Deirdre created them for her boutique, Candy Shop Vintage, and I absolutely LOVE them!  Check out her feature on this previous post.  Trust me, you’ll love the whole ‘Celebrate’ Collection!  What I love most about these necklaces is you can wear them all together as shown, since each necklace is a different length, or you can wear them separately.  I wear the little champagne bottle by itself all the time!  My dad gave my sisters all one of these necklaces for Christmas.  And I absolutely LOVE my longer style version that I have in a few colors. I gave my sister this one for her birthday in the Fall.

My absolute favorite from her ‘Celebrate’ collection is this charm bracelet.  When I wear it out, I receive so many compliments on it, and people love to see it up close. Shown here with my Gigi New York Monogrammed Mini Taylor Tote.  My nails are a dark vampy red, Essie Wicked.

Loving my new nail color!  I’ve had a few of you ask if I’m still painting my own nails.  I am.  Haven’t had a professional mani/pedi since before Vaughn was born – so that’s over three years.  I’ve never had a problem doing my own.  I find that the shorter I cut them (which I’ve always done anyway), the longer they last.  I also apply a coat of either this Super Duper Topcoat or Good to Go and it works wonders.

Okay, so to preface this post, I must say that I lied.  I said I’d be bringing you more outfits and inspirations for cold weather this week, but I still just can’t kick this yearning for warm weather.  Albeit the freezing weather, I’ve started running again.  And it feels so good!

My Nike Free 5.0s are still my favorite.  For fit, they’re true to size, and currently 20% off in my color. // Kate Spade Thermal Mug
Back on My Summer Kick…
Y’all may remember my favorite sunglasses I wore so much last summer.  They’re still available, but only a few are left.  They do run on the bigger side, so if you have a small face, they may not work for you.
But these might!  I came across them the other day.  They’ve still got the clear, matte mirrored look as the others, except the shape of the sunglasses is a little different, and the frames are smaller.  So those of you who mentioned that the other pair is too big, these may fit just right.  They’re also on major sale.  Available here in blue too.
I found this Mara Hoffman Dress on sale.  Just enter TWENTY at checkout.  This markdown won’t last long.  It also comes in this print, which you may remember I wore on Thanksgiving, here (scroll to the bottom of the post).
And this Bananas Sweatshirt looks super comfy!  Also 20% off with code: TWENTY.

Some of you were asking if they’d restock this striped coverup that I posted about earlier this week here, in more sizes soon.  I talked to them, and they said in about two weeks they’ll restock all sizes at Shopbop.  For reference, I wear a small.
My sincerest apologies that this Thirsty Thursday post was a day late!  I know many of you love to read my blog daily, and were probably surprised that I didn’t post yesterday.  I’ve been having a little trouble with my laptop lately.  Needless to say, I think it’s time for an upgrade!
Be sure and check tomorrow’s post for sales going on and a fun cold weather outfit idea!  And on Monday, I’m talking all about my new Apple Watch.  I’ve mentioned it here and there a little bit, but didn’t want to give a full review until I played with it a little longer.  I’m also comparing it to the other armbands on the market, as I’ve had a few emails asking whether I like the Apple one just as much.
I hope y’all have an awesome weekend!  We actually have nothing planned, kind of on purpose, and I’m kind of excited about it.  With all the traveling we’ve been doing over the holidays, I’m ready to stay put for awhile!
TGIF, Y’all!

  1. Ashley: would love to know how you get your manicure so neat. I have no problem polishing my nails-it's the cuticles. Love your blog!
